Perth, Western Australia — August 3 — Staring Man launches a new iPhone game: Pools of Blood featuring Karnivool. This will be the Perth band's first foray into computer games, and Staring Man's first team-up with cutting-edge local music talent.
Pools of Blood is a is a fast-paced tower defence game, which has adopted "Set Fire to the Hive" as its backing track and theme music. The single comes from Karnivool's new album, Sound Awake, which has gone Gold in Australia and has been nominated for the prestigious Best Album of the Year J-Award by the national youth radio station Triple J.
Karnivool guitarist Mark Hosking says: “We like the game, we had fun working with Staring Man, a local studio with a genuine interest in music and we like the chance to showcase our work in a different way ... every extra person we reach is a bonus.”
Staring Man CEO Robert Spencer says, "We couldn't have picked a better first partnership. The song fits our fast and furious game perfectly. It's just more fun to play with Set Fire to the Hive cranked up.
“The other really exciting thing is that it helps us promote a local band to audiences all around the world. We know it works: one of our developers went out and bought the album after seeing the track in action."
Pools of Blood revolves around squishing attacking Orcs with your fingers, and adds a level of depth with a streamlined combo system, and live updates of how your score compares to other players in the world.
The game not only features the track during play, but it also features a music player so you can pause and rewind the track, as well as quick links to the band pages. And iTunes store. This lets players track the Karnivool's progress progress, listen to samples of the rest of Sound Awake, and download it all with a couple of taps.
“It's a pretty compelling way to co-ordinate different elements of the Australian entertainment industry — especially for trailblazing, alternative, or indie bands — and it gives everyone a leg up. The experience with Karnivool has been great and we're now in talks with other Australian recording artists. The synergy is beautiful and we're keen to make killer game and music collaborations a trademark of Staring Man."
Pools of Blood featuring Karnivool is available now in the iTunes store.
